How We Work

Talk to Miralis and explain your challenge. We’ll sign a non-disclosure agreement and then you can share your data with us (we’re fully registered with the ICO to handle third-party data securely).

We’ll then provide you with a proposal based on what we believe we can achieve with the data. The outcome could be a simple report that provides the solution you need. Alternatively, we could develop a live model using a bespoke algorithm for change analysis, such as winning a large contract or opening a new retail outlet. Finally, we could develop a piece of software that helps you plan, organise and schedule to meet the goals of the report or recommend existing third-party solutions.

At the heart of this is the use of algorithms. We have the ability to create bespoke algorithms that prescribes a powerful solution to your problem. We also have a huge library of algorithms that can be adapted as required.

Dr Will Maden
Analytics Director

Will has over a decade of experience in delivering substantial productivity improvements, efficiency gains and saving companies millions in the process.

With a Doctorate in Mathematical Modelling from Lancaster University, where he focused on logistics, he worked as a Lecturer but quickly realised that his talent for analysing data, understanding the commercial models and writing algorithms to tackle complex logistical problems and improve performance would be a business in itself.

Bar a stint as a Director of British Car Auctions, Will has worked as a consultant with an array of companies making huge savings and efficiencies to their organisations. They include British Car Auctions, Europcar, Shell, Co-Operative Group, Routemonkey, Ford and Hoyer.

Mike Gibson
Commercial Director

Over the last 25 years Michael has constantly innovated, launched new and exciting products and services that others want, reshaped businesses, built great teams, created substantial shareholder value, grown companies and people, and then sold those businesses on.

As the Owner and Managing Director of the leading creative digital marketing agency Fat Media, he grew the company from a team of five to 68 with major national and international clients. There, he developed an interest in analytics, optimisation and using algorithms in digital platforms.

Since then, he’s worked as a management consultant and non-executive director. He’s worked with 14 companies from music composition to security. At the Upham Group, he’s helped the pub company grow from nothing to £19 million turnover in less than four years using capital invested primarily via EIS. At UK Bathroom Store, he has helped grow turnover from £2 million to a run rate of £4.75 million and profits from £2k per month to £45k in less than four months.

Dr Murat Gunal
Associate – Simulation

Murat is an expert in discreet event simulation. After he gained his BSc at the Turkish Naval Academy, he went on to gain an MsC in Operational Research and later his PhD in Management Science at Lancaster University.

He’s worked on a number of projects including modelling hospitals for performance management, developing a generic warehouse simulation for a large UK company, contact centre modelling for a UK police force, and air defence simulation modelling for the Turkish Navy.

In addition, he worked in NHS hospitals in Lancaster, Manchester, and London, to map their healthcare processes. He also developed simulation models for pharmaceutical companies for health technology assessment. His view of simulation helped clients understand and structure problems, create solutions and implement these solutions successfully.

Prof Richard Eglese
Associate – Operational Research and Heuristics

Richard Eglese has research interests including combinatorial optimisation using mathematical programming and heuristic methods.

He is concerned with applications to vehicle routing problems, particularly models for time-dependent problems and for problems in Green Logistics, where environmental considerations are taken into account to provide more sustainable distribution plans.

He is President of EURO (The Association of European Operational Research Societies) 2017-2018. He is also a former President of the Operational Research Society in the UK and is currently a member of its General Council and Chair of its Publications Committee.

Prof David Corne
Associate – Optimisation, Machine Learning and Data Mining

David’s research is in optimisation, machine learning and data mining. He works with others, from advising start-ups through to major industry-supported projects, in exploiting this research.

Simply put, David designs algorithms that solve difficult problems in the areas of pattern recognition, logistics, telecoms, bioinformatics and many other areas. Much of this work involves algorithms that build predictive models by exploiting multiple data sources.

His main research focus is on understanding how appropriately to design and/or configure algorithms for any given space of problems, instances or datasets. His primary interest is in applications of benefit to the environment and health.

Dr Chris Savage
Associate – Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Recruited by Price Waterhouse, Chris spent 15 years doing logistics consulting, working in the UK, Hong Kong, Europe and Australia, before joining academia in 2002. Consultancy assignments ranged from systems analysis and mathematical modelling through project management and due diligence to interim appointments as IT and Operations Directors.

He then spent fifteen years at the University of Huddersfield, culminating in the post of Principal Lecturer for Transport and Logistics, including a three year secondment as Associate Professor at the Polytechnic of Namibia. Published research, often with international collaborators, has covered: pharmaceutical supply chains, vehicle routing and scheduling, third party logistics, transport geography, global logistics, logistics and trade in developing countries, supply chain relationships and high capacity vehicle impact.

In addition, he is the co-author of a number of logistics related publications and monographs as well as various journal and newspaper articles.

Holding qualifications in Biology, Management and Logistics, Chris is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Logistics and the Higher Education Academy.
